Ruth Vesenka Lewis

Litturgical Danceis the artistic director of  Dimensional Dance.  She has choreographed a number of contemporary and classical pieces for professional dance companies, schools and houses of worship in CT and NY. These include the contemporary dance piece M-Theory for Saratoga City Ballet, O Squared for Miss Porters School, Sisters for Ballet Theater Company, Wyeth: Looking Beyond for the Wadsworth Atheneum Andrew Wyeth exhibit, Peaceable Kingdom for the Antoine-Louis Barye sculpture exhibit at the Hill-Stead Museum, and Grease for the Avon Middle School Broadway production, and The Gift at Avon’s Baptist Church.

Ms. Lewis is a teaching artist listed on the Connecticut Teaching Artists Directory.  She teaches academics through choreography and movement to help students deepen their understanding using a techique grounded in Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory.  She has taught the basic elements of choreography in numerous schools throughout Connecticut.

After graduating from the Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts, Ms. Lewis went on to dance professionally with Hartford Ballet, Berkshire Ballet and American Repertory Ballet Company. During her career she performed the works of Alvin Ailey(Lark Ascending), Gerald Arpino(Reflections), George Balanchine(Allegro Brillante), Dermot Burke(Nutcracker-Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, Dew Drop Fairy) , Doris Humphrey(Shakers),  Phillip Jerry(Our Town), Paul Taylor(Mecuric Tidings), Anthony Tudor(Soriee Musical, Cereus), Michael Uthoff(Carmen, Hansel and Gretel, Nutcracker), Septime Webre(Shoogie, And So It Goes, Nutcracker- Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, Dew Drop Fairy) among others.

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Ms Lewis spent the majority of her youth growing up in the pastoral town of Harvard, Massachusetts where her parents owned and operated an International Youth Hostel called Friendly Crossways.  After living in Bermuda for four years, she and her husband live in central Connecticut and have two adult children.
